Each year our centre runs a Transition Timetable for the first 2-4 weeks of Term 1, depending on which program your child is joining.
This is a settling in timetable to set the foundation for the children at the beginning of the year to have a positive association and experience with Kinder.
We have found over many years that the opportunity for the children to have shorter sessions with only half the number of children is essential for this very positive start to the year.
We believe in assisting children to build a close and trusting relationship with the staff from the beginning and it is essential for the children’s sense of belonging and wellbeing. Smaller groups mean the Staff are able to have quality and significant interactions with each child. Staff are also able to support the children in their knowledge of the routines and the self-help skills required. This can happen in a calm and supportive manner as each individual child can be given lots of support.
The foundations of trust, relationship building and the children’s familiarity of the routine means that when we have the whole group join together, we have set up a very positive foundation to continue to build on.
In term 1 of 2022 Surrey Hills Pre-School centre surveyed current families and future families about the current Kinder timetable offering as part of our commitment to continuously reflect on our offering and ensuring our communities needs are met.
Our Future Timetables sub-committee have analysed the results of the survey and while some families love shorter hours offered by our kinder some found they are needing a later pick up time for various reasons. Our sub committee then researched other kinder offerings in the area, consulted with our teachers philosophy around Early Childhood Education and with some wonderful collaboration we are excited to pilot an ‘After Hours Care’ program in 2023.
We feel being able to offer 1 of 3 year old and 1 of our 4 year old groups is a good balance that encompass our teachers philosophy as well as the changing needs of our community.
Our After Care Program is designed for families who need a later pick up time from our Kinder sessions, please note this is not part of our Core Kinder Program and any child who does not attend will not be disadvantaged in their learning and development.
The After Care Program will be facilitated by a teacher and educator and families can choose the following:
The After Care Program is only available for Blue and Yellow Groups as an extension of their day. The After Care Program will only run when minimum enrolment numbers are reached for each group and if the program can not go ahead for the term, already enrolled families will be given notice of the cancelled program and given a refund.
Yellow Group Children, in the After Hours Care program, please note regulations state, for a 3 year old Kinder program, that 'rest time' needs to be offered to meet children's wellbeing/ need for rest and will be offered to all children attending - all children will be provided a matt and bedding should they wish to have a rest/sleep between 1pm – 2pm.
We are currently reviewing our full policy for After Care Hours program, it will be available soon on our site.
Applications for 2023 places due by 24 June 2021.
